Swiss designer Yves Béhar states, "Creating a work chair is one of design's greatest challenges, an intimidating project in every possible way." He emphasizes, "There is no place to hide in a chair. Every part serves a structural or tactile purpose." Béhar did not have to look far from his adopted home of San Francisco for the inspiration of his Sail task chair (2010). The geometry of the Golden Gate Bridge suspension system can be seen in the airiness of the chair's signature back.

The chair's name reflects the sailboats that pass beneath the famous bridge, and replacing the "I" in "Sail" with a "Y" is a nod to the chair's innovative Y-tower structure, which provides ample support. The ventilated elastomer back flexes with the user's body and permits free air circulation, while the four-setting tilt limiter allows for adjusting tension and range to one's liking.

Described as low-cost but high-concept, the Sail task chair took almost three years to create and is Cradle to Cradle Silver certified for sustainability. Although 90% recyclable, this task chair is no mere throwaway. The Frameless Suspension Back offers sitters a healthy balance between support and freedom of movement.

The chair's features include a tilt limiter, stationary seat depth and arms, a black base and frame, and carpet casters. The Breathable Unframed Back keeps the user cool while working, and the minimal design has a minimal impact on the environment.
